Don't Forget Your Lips

Winter months can do damage to your lips. Even with our “California winter”. Leaving your lips untreated can be a huge nuisance, especially for matte lipstick wearers. However, if you have a good lip care routine, you can heal and/or avoid any chapped lip moments and ensure a super soft pout all season long. Not sure where to start?

These are our 3 tips for better lip care!

This is important because it's what gets rid of all of the dead skin from your lips, as well as helping with circulation and the turnover of cells. You can do this several different ways...buying a lip exfoliation product at the store, using a toothbrush to gently scrub your lips, whipping up your own DIY lip scrub (a bit of honey and brown sugar works wonders), etc.

I recommend exfoliating at least every other day throughout the year, and definitely daily during winter. When you're regularly exfoliating, you'll want to be mindful of how vigorous you scrub - be gentle to avoid causing any cuts or scrapes.

After exfoliating, it's time to replenish the hydration to your parched pout. This one is probably a no-brainer, but apply your lip balm! Get into the habit of having a balm or salve on hand at all times - keep one in your purse, another in your desk at work, one more in your bathroom for after brushing your teeth and doing your skincare routine.

The final topic I want to cover when talking about lip care is protection. Even though it's wintertime here in the States and most days have been gloomy and grey, the sun is still up there behind all of those clouds and it's harmful UV rays are still able to mess with our skin. Just like you're applying face products with SPF, make sure to also pick up a lip balm that has some sun protection in it as well. Keeping your lips safe from the sun's rays not only helps them to not get chapped as easily, but it also stops signs of premature aging as well as lowering the possibility of skin cancer.
